For establishing the scientific orientalism in China

the Institute of History and Philology (IHP) had gathered many neohistorians

forming an academic community in the modern sense. Compared with the research orientation of the ancient historians

the scholars of the IHP paid more attention to the analysis of important issues affecting the historical process. Furthermore

they not only used the existing historical materials and achievements in China as the research base

but also took Western Sinology as the reference system

and strived to communicate and dialogue with foreign scholars in the common field of academic research. Furthermore

the textual research of the scholars of the IHP experienced a path transformation from merely seeking the truth to lay equal stress on truth-seeking and application

leading to the sublimation of the realm of historical research. Therefore

their research results not merely promoted the academic development of the Republic of China

but also highlighted the style of Chinese historical research.
