Neo-Confucianism and "Invigoration" Poetics in the Song Dynasty: A Study Centered on "Static Observation"
Neo-Confucianism was the mainstream social and cultural trend of thought in the Song Dynasty. It not only re-standardized and shaped the political culture and social life of the Song Dynasty
but also profoundly affected the literary creation. Most Neo-Confucianists in the Song Dynasty advocated static observation and believed it was the most basic skill to cultivate morality and scholarship. The cognitive mode of static observation of Neo-Confucianism is closely related to the "invigoration" poetics. It can not only make philosophers understand internal laws and see the truth
but also provide a source of artistic inspiration and creative materials for poets. Through static observation
the poet can appreciate the "invigoration in the heart" and "invigoration on the paper"
so as to experience and feel the infinite vitality of nature with a lively state of mind. Therefore
their poems are full of sentiment and interest unconsciously. Yang Wanli’s "Chengzhai style" poetry is a typical representation of "invigoration" poetics in the Song Dynasty
which is of great significance in the history of poetics.
