On the problem of scientific independence

Merton’s scientific sociology has double complementary effects to Marxist philosophy.On one hand

the former tries to clarify and emphasize the independence of science

which is a good kind of complement to the latter’s idea of the ultimate impetus of science being physical production.On the other hand

the former’s emphasizing on the independence of scientific system is a good kind of complement to the latter’s emphasizing the independence of scientific knowledge.For the sake of the development of science and technology of China

it is of great importance to emphasize scientific independence.So

we should attach importance to the thought of scientific independence of Merton.
