The Change from Regulated Fu to Ancient Fu in Imperial Examinations in Late Goryeo Dynasty and Early Joseon Dynasty封面论文
The imperial examinations in the Goryeo Dynasty evolved from the emphasis on poetry and Fu to the gradually increasing emphasis on Confucian classics and statecraft. With the rise of the call for reform in imperial examinations
there was a trend against parallel prose and regulated Fu and favoring ancient prose and ancient Fu
which was influenced by the imperial examination system and literary style of the Song Dynasty. The Yuan Dynasty's imperial examination system was accepted at the end of the Goryeo Dynasty
which replaced poetry and regulated Fu with ancient Fu and questions on Confucian classics and statecraft
adopting ancient Fu in the imperial examination for the first time in the Korean Peninsula. After the founding of the Joseon Dynasty
ancient Fu became the official writing style of imperial examination
which lasted for more than 500 years
making Yuan Dynasty's imperial examination system continue for a long time outside China. In the early Joseon Dynasty
there were many debates on the issue of adopting Fu in the imperial examination
such as whether to adopt Confucian classics or poetry and Fu
whether to adopt ancient Fu or regulated Fu
and whether it was practical or not
which reflected different understandings of ancient Fu and adopting it in the imperial examination.
