"Qi Ye" on the Qinghua Bamboo Slips is not a serious history written by the historians in Xi Zhou
nor a collection of ancient documents edited by the scholars in the Zhan Guo period. Rather
it has all the characters to be regarded as an ancient novel written in the Zhan Guo period. Once its nature is determined
we are able to examine it from the literary criticism perspective and resolve the dispute about the issues like its authenticity and its time of being written which have long been disputed among historians and textual researchers. In the mean time
the discovery of the poems modeled after the forebears is also valuable in literature history because the phenomenon reveals to us a way of narration that supplements story-telling with poems used by those ancient novelists. It fills in a gap of poem writing during the Zhan Guo period which was previously known as the era of prose without poems. We therefore know that at the end of the period of government sanctioning poem writing there came a period of private learning with free poem writing as a part of it.
