there was a famine due to severe draught in Western Shandong and Southern Hebei Provinces. In 1941 and 1942
harvest was dramatically damaged and even worse in 1943 when the severe lack of rain in the Spring destroyed agriculture totally and plague of locusts and flood also appeared. In addition
the Japanese
their Chinese collaborators and the bandits robbed Chinese people crazily. The catastrophe reached its peak in 1943 when millions of people starved to death. For survival
they had to sell their land
their houses
their sons or daughters and even their wives. They left their home to go everywhere begging along the way and endured untold suffering.
