This article is the posthumous manuscript of R.G. Tiedemann
the famous overseas scholar of Chinese history. It criticizes both the Saintly Biographic narrative of Christian history by church scholars and the total negation of missionaries as enemies by anthropological researchers. At the same time
it questioned the Orientalism and Post-colonialism in the Western study of the history of Christianity in China rising since late 20th century. It emphasizes that we should study the reasons for the development of Christianity in China from the perspective of the Chinese people
and also study why Western missionaries left their motherland to preach in China
which was sometimes dangerous. He believes that these common experiences of human destiny deserve more careful and serious academic scrutinization.
