The emperor’s birthday

also known as Jiangdan (the day birth falls)

Zaidan (the day carrying birth) and Danjie (the birth festival) in Chinese

composed an important part of official holidays in the Tang and Song dynasties. This paper studies the Qingcheng Festival celebrating the birthday of Emperor Wenzong of the Tang Dynasty

interprets the background of its emergence and its historical traditions. Moreover

emphasis was placed on the discussion of the spatial transference of Qingcheng Festival celebrations in different stages

and an analysis was conducted on the political culture factors behind the space of such celebrations in combination with the mentality of the emperor and the process of institutional operation to reveal the complex relationship between Qingcheng Festival celebrations and the political situation during the reign of Emperor Wenzong of the Tang Dynasty.
