Barriers to and Paths for the Employment of the Disabled: From the Perspective of Disability Social Model
China has made great achievements in promoting employment opportunities for people with disabilities. However
difficulties faced by them in securing jobs have still impeded the fast development of the cause of the disabled in our country. The disability social model deflects focus from individuals to the constraints imposed upon by the social context. From the perspective of the social model
employment difficulties of the disabled mainly result from social barriers
reflective of employment obstacles in the domains of ideology
social context
and policy. In order to grapple with the employment dilemma of the disabled within the current policy framework
it is necessary to change the policy path from directly providing job opportunities to dismantling social barriers for the disabled. The effective removal of social barriers is not only conducive to improving the accessibility of the labor market for the disabled
but also enhances their capability
wellbeing and inclusion in society in a comprehensive way.
