An Analytical Study of the Evolution of Die Linke’s Stance on Refugee Issues
The refugee issues are a focus of German politics that has become one of the key factors in the general election and negotiation progress for cabinet-forming in Germany in 2017. Die Linke (The Left) of Germany as the third biggest party and the biggest opposition party in the previous Bundestag
as well as the fifth biggest party in the present Bundestag
originates from the PSD of the DRG
and the WASG broken away from the SPD of the FRG. Since its establishment
it has attached great importance to refugee issues and has put forward a 10-point Refugee Stance at its official website. But an inquiry into relevant documents and data shows that Die Linke has wavered on refugee issues for several times. And for some time
it has even failed to meet the common expectations of a left party. This paper tries to generalize the stages of Die Linke’s stance on refugee issues
analyze them from the perspectives of party politics
the program and practice of Die Linke
and the complicated nature of refugee issues
and point out the limitations and significance of Die Linke’s return to a left-wing stance
whose effect on achieving a balance in the German political eco-system in the scenario of the re-rising and growing of the extreme right-wing populism is to be examined.
