Early Contact Between China’s Agriculture and the World——A Brief Account of China’s Participation in International Agricultural Conferences in the Late Qing Dynasty
As a country established on the basis of agriculture industry since ancient times
China has created brilliant achievements in this industry. Since modern times
however
China’s agriculture has gradually lagged behind Western countries. Under the grave impact in the late Qing Dynasty
China’s agriculture was faced with the task of rejuvenation
and it was of great importance to learn and make use of advanced agricultural knowledge
technology
and management experience of Western countries. In this context
international agricultural conferences related to the Qing government provided a learning and communication platform for the revitalization of China’s agriculture industry. Despite the fact that the Qing government lacked enthusiasm in the process of learning and communication
it still made necessary adjustments to China’s agricultural policies and agricultural management methods at the time to meet the requirements of international conferences. Based on these international conferences
the early contact between China’s agriculture and the world has contributed to China’s agricultural modernization.
